Junior Ring . . .

The Junior Ring Ceremony was a really nice event - or should I say a "right of passage" for the young people involved. Like you always here from parents, "I can't believe they are already about to graduate". I am thinking the same thing. And this is only the beginning. We took plenty of pictures and the food was good. It was held at "The Lake House" on Old Hammond near Flannery. That place is beautiful. Her ring is really pretty.

As I was about to leave, I was sitting in the car in the parking lot getting a little 'down' emotionally. It was unusual in that I don't normally feel that way. So here I am psychoanalyzing myself as to why I am having these feelings. I never totally figured it out, but I think it is normal to feel a little lost when the kids are becoming older and more independent, going through the passages such as this Ring Ceremony. It is like a two sided coin, you are excited about the future for your children, but at the same time feeling the loss of them getting one step closer to leaving the nest. So I quoted some verses which helped me refocus on the Lord and His purposes for all of our lives. I had to preach myself happy in order to shake it off. Life is full of changes and challenges, but God said He would never leave us nor forsake us.

God Bless. George

More visits . . .

Monday and Tuesday have been visit the doctor day. I am ready to get in the bed but I wanted to hit the blog a bit, too.
No more tragedies, accidents, diagnosis, problems etc. Everyone is doing as well a they can considering. My mom had a bonescan today which was uneventful for her. My dad is doing better after the heart cath. My brother's arm is healing as far as I know. My father-in-law is also doing okay following his weekend at the hospital. I am still using the wound VAC and the site is improving.
I went to see another doctor (no, I have not ditched any previous doctors) who was trained as a M.D. who also uses natural type treatments. Her name is Dr. Cave. I have learned alot in 2 days. There is so much to talk about as a result of our meeting, but I will say I have some pictures to prove it. "It" being a change I saw in my blood constitution in one day following chelation therapy. It even took the doctor by surprise. It is all being documented. More on that later . . .
The girls Hosanna basketball won tonight! They played a really good game.
I found out tonight someone else I have worked with had some blood work which came back positive for a recurrence of cancer. No proof as far as tumors, but the tumor markers are present in the test. I'll give you more on that later...
Have you been to Whole Foods on Jefferson Hwy? You could spend hours just looking at the stuff they carry. They also have little restaurantes inside the store. I also use "Our daily bread" store on Florida Blvd at Monterey by Cortana Mall. It is not nearly as big, but still packed full of good stuff. They have all kinds of bread - I like the 'Spelt' which is a grain but not considered wheat. Delicious stuff, especially toasted. Speaking of bread (reminds me of the Bread of Life) . . .

I asked the Lord a question the other day, and He used the Word in an unusual way to give me the answer. It is the scripture about the disciples not being able to cast out or heal a child and Jesus replied that this kind only comes out by prayer. Yes Lord, then prayer it is, and prayer it will continue to be.

Please continue to be in prayer for some other cancer fighters -Jill Hymel, Dr. M. Hackler, Debbie H., and Wil's dad - Mr. Howell. We all are believing for God's hand to move in our behalf, according to His Will.
Thanks, George.

You ain't gonna believe this . . . .

Friday night the kids slept over again ('camped out' by the fire place) and you know what happened with the loss of cookies. Then, another one started coughing and weezing - we think he had a reaction to some food at the wedding, maybe the pecans in the cake icing. Be that as it may, we got him taken care of. Not too long after that the phone rang. My father-in-law went in A-fib and had to go th the ER. After some time and testing he converted - no not to the "Hary Chrishners" - rather his heart rhythm converted back to a normal beat. Today (Sat.) he is okay and should be coming home Monday morning. What is strange is that about 15 minutes after finding out about his A-fib, I started having some funny heart activity. Not as bad as I had at M.D. Anderson, but similar. This is still going on - - on/off throughout the day.

I spoke with my mother Saturday only to find out that her sister's house was broken into. This is the sister that came to N.O. to help mom around the house while she was recovering from the surgery. Ain't that just the devil himself. This has been quite a year. Well, like Margie told me back in December 2005 when all of this started -
Romans 8:28 Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
Together is the key word. Individually these things are not pleasant, fun nor does it make any sense, but in the long run and together, God is working things out. That is where trust and faith comes in.
Time to hit the sack.

#2 update on dad . . .

My dad came home today and he is doing well. We thank you for praying, the heart cath went great! I believe all of the prayer support paved the way for the successfull stenting by the doctors. He says the headaches are gone and his breathing has improved. Praise God!

For those with a weak stomach, you might want to skip the 'GREEN' part ....

(What follows is a real account of the events that unfolded while I was beginning to type this post - the names have been changed to protect the innocent).

Pause . . . What is that splattering noise? I turn around and here it comes . . .

Woe! one of the cousins just woke up running towards me while losing their cookies all over the kitchen floor! Quick, stop at the sink - don't move .... etc, etc . . . and what is even funnier, I don't even know if they were fully awake to know what was going on . . .

And any of you who have had kids/grand kids know the routine. Clean up time! We were lucky this time, it was only about a 20 foot 'trail of shame' (a reference to the movie R.V.). With lots of quick action and team work (and clorox), everything was cleaner than it was found. Thank goodness for disposable gloves, a strong stomach and of course a sense of 'adventure' around midnight. . . . the other ones did not even wake up. . .
You can read from here on down safely

How about them TIGERS !!!
We saw the first half at home, but had to head out to the wedding and listened to the second half on the road. That was one exciting car ride! Arkansas has got a really good team, but this was our day to win.

Regardless of who wins, I have learned that both success and failure are imposters. (but it is fun to win). I think, and I could be wrong, all of these things in life are sent to test us in one way or another and God only knows the reasons why. I just have to trust and obey, like the old Hymn says, "trust and obey, for there's no other way, to be happy in Jesus, than to trust and obey". I believe God wants us to put Him on the throne of our hearts - above all other things - circumstances, successes, failures, gains and losses - because that is the way we were made to function originally. It all about Him, not us. We are the sheep in His pasture, not the other way around.
Have a good weekend and let's see you in Church this Sunday.
George, the clean-up man . . .

Word from Robin...

Hey everybody. I haven't written in a while. I wanted to share with you all how the Lord has ministered to me lately. I hope that as you are going through your own life trials you'll remember these words of encouragement. One day recently, I was talking with someone about all of the things that have been going on with George's family. His dad has had two surgeries and now just experienced a heart attack, George had cancer surgery and is going through cancer recovery, George's brother had to have surgery for an injury to his arm, and George's mom had breast cancer surgery and is now also going through treatment. I made the comment to my friend that "When it rains it pours" as soon as I said that I felt as if the Lord spoke to my heart, "So, are you ready to play in the rain." As that thought came I began smiling realizing that life is full of mountains and valleys and Jesus is the ONLY consistency in this life. That brings great comfort to me because actually if we really mean what we sing at church and the things we say He is the one our heart longs for. He is the one that we long to see. He is the one that we trust. In my minds eye, I could see the Lord holding my hand running and splashing in the rain. If we will allow HIM to HE can help us bring all things into perspective. Our perspective must be an eternal one. It's hard to get that perspective sometimes since we live in a world bound by time. However, when we view things from the perspective of eternity we see things much different. We don't try to hold on so hard to what we think is permanent which is actually temporary and we reach for the things that seem to be hard to grasp but yet are the only things permanent. God is forever teaching and forever wanting our attention. He has been an EVER present help in time of trouble. Be assured our God will never leave us or forsake us. Stand strong child of God.

Robin

Update on Dad . . .

For those of you who do not know, my Dad, Mike, had a heart attack today with a subsequent heart cath (angiogram) during which two stents were placed in the affected arteries. This was discovered by a blood test which detects a certain chemical your heart muscle puts out when it is in distress. He complained of no pain - his only symptom was shortness of breath. Thankfully, his doctor took quick action. After the heart cath, he was doing well and talking his head off according to my mother. He is being kept in the ICU for observation until tomorrow. Mom is doing well. Thank you for your prayer support.
The Hosanna ladies basketball lost (just barely) to Ascension Catholic by one or two points - but they played their hearts out. It was an nail biter, edge of your seat type of game.
I am still wearing my V.A.C. device and it is working very well. I still have the red cord on the right side of my neck where the port line ran under the skin. It is very red, swollen and tender. If it does not improve by this Friday, I will have to let one of my doctors take a look at it.
Psalm 91:1-2
1 He that dwells in the secret place of the Most high
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge
and my fortress, my God; in Him will I trust.
That is a good Word. . .
I need to hit the sack - more tomorow. George

Goin' to New Orleans . . .

"Jack Frost"

I decided to go to New Orleans to visit with mom and dad today. Thursday is Thanksgiving but I wanted to go up earlier and spend some time with my two Aunts and Grandmother (Granny). They are in for the Holiday. We had plenty of laughs together. Dad has finally gotten his “scooter” running – all the way into the next door neighbors wall! It is called a ‘gyro’ (Honda) and has two wheels on the back and one front wheel. The back pivots/leans left and right which makes it difficult to maneuver. He finally got the hang of it. I did NOT ride it – I have enough to deal with right now, so being a test pilot is not on my list of things to do. By the way, he paid $2 for it at a garage sale and put over $100 to get it running properly.
I also was able to talk to my mom about her CT with contrast which is tomorrow. I gave her some advice concerning the IV and about the contrast drink. She is going to doing well.
This morning ‘jack frost’ paid us a big visit. It was around 30 degrees and it is also supposed to get just as low Wednesday morning.
The Hosanna girls team lost to Cabrini today. They held their own but still lost by 20 points. All the other teams Cabrini played were at least 33 points behind. So we didn’t do too bad. One more game tomorrow (Wed.).
“Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, lean not on your own understanding, acknowledge Him in all of your ways and He will make your paths straight”.
Please keep praying for the Lord to direct me and mom as far as treatment options. Thanks.
I saw an interesting saying on a Church marquee,
"This year, instead of "giving" thanks, let's start "living" thanks.
Have a great Thanksgiving week.
GW

P.S. Spoke with my mother this morning (Wed.) and the CT went fine.

Decisions ....

How about a nice warm fire to snuggle up in front of? We (she) decided it was now cold enough for a fire - actually two nights in a row we have had a fire. What is it about a fire that so captivates us?
The warm glow, crackling of the wood and the warmth of course - I guess. I can imagine how necessary it was for survival over the past centuries - no fire, no hot cooked food and maybe even no protection from predators. In the colder climates it's the only thing that separated you and yours from freezing to death. We can choose our fires now just for the pleasure of it. It is a blessing to enjoy with friends and family. And it is fun to be a 'fire' bug and play in it trying to keep it going. . .

So many decisions to be made. I have been reading alot in the area of alternative treatments – some with good promise and others with not so good promise. It all depends on who is talking and do they have an agenda or product to sell. Prayer is my main tool in addition to study.

Isaiah 30:21 "21 Your ears shall hear a word behind you,
saying, "This is the way, walk in it," Whenever you turn to
the right hand Or whenever you turn to the left.
Pastor Don used this text Sunday morning in the series of messages, “What are You saying God?” Many people are in need of a direct Word from God. Not a general direction but a specific Word that applies exactly to their situation. That is where I am presently. It would be so much easier to just have the Lord come into my kitchen with a yellow pad and for Him to write down a list that I was to follow. But that is not how faith works. The Word says in James 1:2-5 “2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” The testing of your faith produces patience. I must be patient – I can still do my homework, be diligent, wise and discerning – but I must be patient and wait upon the Lord. Again, the word says that, “those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength” – and I need my strength renewed. Again, “the joy of the Lord is my strength”. The Scriptures are full of power to renew the soul and the body, capable of reviving you when you least believe you can be revived. Jesus said, "all things are possible if you can only believe". And like the father with the sick child said to Jesus, "help me in my unbelief”. Lord, help us in our unbelief.

Today started out very cold with jack frost on the roof tops and the fields. Tonight and into Tuesday morning it is supposed to get down into the low 30’s. We are even letting the cats sleep in the foyer hall – they cannot get into the main house since we can shut the doors and isolate them to just the foyer. Blacky is on medicine for sneezing and runny eyes. She is getting better and now I noticed that Tippy is sneezing a little, too. If I had known they were going to require so much attention, the pound could have been their home – just kidding. We enjoy their company and they are some of the friendliest cats I have ever had, especially Tippy.
The Hosanna girls team won today. They played against Riverside in Donaldsonville. We had fun on the drive out there and back. We ate at a restaurant (which I will leave nameless) and it never fails that something will be wrong with Robin’s food. It’s either too cooked – or not cooked enough. This time she ordered fried oysters and she came up with a gray pearl, black pearl and a sliver of oyster shell. That was three oysters in a row! It was unbelievable! Well, needless to say three strikes and you are out. She asked the waitress for something else and it was pretty good. It must be a restaurant conspiracy. Bryan says he can remember only one time when she got something (a meal) without a problem. I just was wishing it would have been some pearls that were worth something.
More games this week - and of course family, turkey and all the “fixins” are coming up this Thanksgiving. This time last year is when I began having some pretty heavy symptoms.
Try to eat healthy and don't be like the Turkey - "stuffed" - when you finish. Remember, there will be left overs!
God bless. George.

Huh?

This has been a long day - CVT had a Thankgiving dinner and I was invited. This was followed by a meeting with a new (new to me) Radiation Oncologist - Dr. Fields. After that I went home to get a few things taken care of before the girl's basketball game - which, by the way, our team won! It was a good game. After the win we ate at IHOP. I could get used to that. But now I am going to get even more "green" when it comes to miy diet. Robin brought up the idea of going all out with the diet thing to see what would happen. I am drinking the carrots and also some of her "green" stuff which is loaded with good ingredients. Of course drinking plenty of non-chlorinated water is a must. I have been doing that since the surgery.
I am researching alternative treatments for cancer - in general. The treatment(s) now being recommended are scary - potentially deadly - as are all medical procedures. I have not given up on traditional chemo/radiation techniques, I just want to know what else is available. Doing my homework, which I should have been doing more of before this.
I need to hit the hay now. Stay strong in the faith. Let's all believe God for big things to happen.
George. More tomorrow. . .

Rushing Wind ...

This was a day of extremes. Heavy rain and winds followed by beautiful blues skies with cooler temps. The winds were really blowing this afternoon - the weather man said up to 35 miles per hour gusts. I like the fresh, crisp air myself. Remember Keith Green’s song “Rushing wind”? All of the heavy winds reminded me of this song. Here are the words –

Rushing wind blow through this temple
blowing out the dust within
Come and breath you breath upon me
I’ve been born again

Holy spirit I surrender
take me where you want to go
Plunge me by you living waters
plant me deep so I can grow

Jesus you’re the One who set my spirit free
Use me Lord glorify your Holy Name through me

Separate me from this world Lord
sanctify my life for You
Daily change me to Your image
help me bear good fruit

Everyday Your’re drawing closer
trials come to test my faith
But when all is said and done Lord
you know its been worth the wait

Jesus you’re the One who set my spirit free
Use me Lord glorify your Holy Name through me

This song says it all.
One day I will I will figure out how to have music / songs with the text and you could listen to the song from this site. I have a lot of those “one day” projects.

Brought "Blacky" the female cat to he Vet for stitch removal and she was also sneezing alot. Hopefully it is nothing serious.
Now I have to go and get my crown fixed – the one that broke a week or two back.
Looking forward to getting that thing fixed and over with.
I meet with a radiation oncologist to morrow to discuss (possible) radiation treatments.
I’ll post more soon.
George
P.S. It is supposed to be really cold tonight - get in your pets and plants that may not like the cold.

Results ...

I met with my Oncologist. Apparently this CT showed similar results as the previous one several months ago with a slight increase in size noted with only one of the masses/tumors. We are talking millimeters (ml) in size. This is encouraging in that there has been no massive changes. This is such a small change that this is actually good news in my mind. The best news would have been to have no evidence of liver involvement anymore.
So, we have been discussing alternate treatments such as "Yttrium-90 Microspheres" which in a nutshell, involves going through the artery at the groin - similar to a heart cath - and up into the hepatic artery which is the artery the feeds into the liver, and depositing these tiny spheres of radiation material. They are 1/3 the size of a human hair. These spheres would then become lodged in the very small blood vessels of the tumors and irradiate them. Anything within 2 to 3 mm's would be hit with some heavy radiation. This is more targeted than the traditional beam radiation which is like a shotgun pattern - broad coverage. This product has a half life of 2.5 days I think and by 2 1/2 weeks has done the job. There are alot of potential benefits and also risks involved, so I am prayer for guidance on this one for sure.
The wound VAC is doing a great job. I have noticed the changes since I started using it last Friday. Changing the dressing is also getting easier, well, kind of easier. Thank goodness for pain meds when they are truly needed.
Met with my parents today and we all three went to see my mom's Oncologist. He explained the course of treatement with risk/benefits. There is only one test the results of which have yet to be returned - and depending on the results of this test, the treatment options could change. We asked alot of questions. They both feel better about the whole thing after having talked with him. The chemo would be 2 months of one set of drugs - once every 2 weeks for 4 treatments and then another set of chemo drugs once every 2 weeks for 4 treatments. This would total 4 months of chemo and he did let her know she would lose her hair at about the 3rd week - but it will grow back. Then she spoke with the radiation Dr. afterwards. We are proceding with prayer and caution. She may seek a 2nd opinion. Her Dr. even said he was totally in favor of a second opinion if she wanted to get one. We shall see. Otherwise, she is feeling good and her sister Eva has been helping her around the house cooking and cleaning, etc.
Tonight was Lauren's first Basketball game in Reserve, her team won. The opposing team seemd like some decent kids.
Afterwards we had to hit the IHOP for some breakfast food. Man, I could have hurt myself eating at that place. But I did use self restraint, thank God!
We are going to keep on living, and trusting God Almighty with tomorrow. We do not know what it brings, but He does and has already promised to be there with us and for us. We serve a big and a good God Who is faithful. Praise His Name. Please continue to believe with us.
Have a great day.
George.

Deer season ...

The deer are back ! Bryan spotted one this morning before Church coming across the East lot towards our backyard. It looked like a healthy doe to me. Not far behind her came a smaller deer – it must have been her baby. Then, another surpise! Here came another baby which looked exactly like the first one in size and color. Twins? They followed the doe across to the backyard and then along the tree line and out of site. I did get about 10 seconds of video and then lost them in the trees. It was exciting – I don’t know about the ladies, they thought it was neat, but they didn’t get quite as excited as us guys. Is it a man thing? I have not been deer hunting in about 25 years, but the excitement remains.

Church was really good. Pastor showed a quick video clip to help illustrate his sermon – it was a Hamster running on a wheel. His little feet were going so fast you could hardly see them and then he (the hamster) suddenly lost it and began spinning around and around on the wheel and the was thrown out of it onto his back. It was so funny I could not control my laughter! Robin had to calm me down. The message of not getting stuck on that hamster wheel sticks with you after seeing that little guy get tossed around. I’ll try to see if I can get the video located and put it on my next post. I know it is on U-Tube.
The weather is getting colder and the Holidays are on the way. We have been looking forward to this year since last year we were busy with “hospital stuff”. I am, as you may have guessed, feeling like Minny Pearl from the old HeHaw show – I am just proud to be here! December 8, 2005 was my diagnosis. That is kind of a weird anniversary, but a good one to be around to celebrate.
Medical talk:I am now hooked up to a “vacuum assisted closure” device (VAC) which will help speed the healing of the port site. It is quite a contraption. A black sponge type material is cut to size and inserted into the wound with Tegaderm tape covering a larger area. I have to then cut a small 2 cm hole in the center of the tape over the sponge. Then a smaller round tape with a built in cup like fitting is place over the sponge. This is connected to the negative pressure pump at 125 mmHg. It smarts when the pump kicks on initially. I only have to change the dressing every 48 hours verses the three times per day with the cotton gauze. Now, it is quite a painful experience to remove the sponge dressing since it kind of gets ‘stuck’ in wound as a result of the vacuum and quicker healing. I didn’t holler too much, but it can make you bite a bullet in half. Thankfully, it is only every two days and it appears to be working.

Tomorrow, I meet with my Oncologist to get the results of my CT. I’ll let ya’ll know something as soon as I can. I am clinging to God’s Word as far as what I believe – regardless of what I hear or see. We are called to “walk by faith, not by sight” which is easier said than done most of the time, but trusting God and walking by faith are something we all learn over time and through our various trials and challenges. The key, I believe, is to continually stay in Word and to read what Jesus had to say about things. He spoke life. And that is what we need to hear – Words of Life.
George.

Season finale .....

Hosanna lost to the 'Amazon' team last night (these were some big and tall girls and they were really good at VB). Our girls held their own in the last game and we had the lead for a while but we just couldn’t stop their attack. They had some deadly spikes from the sides by two left handed girls among other techniques and strategies that were hard to defend against. We learned a lot. The place was full of energy with 3 different courts playing simultaneously. No lack of excitement that is for sure. It was a good experience for the team. So, in the end we made it to the top 8 teams level. There were other teams we could have played before this one that we probably would have beat, but that is not how the dice rolled for us. To God be the Glory. There is always next year. . .

Today is Friday. Stop and calmly think of that.

Here are some really
good scriptures – they are all good but you know how some apply more so on some days than do others. These are like a “spiritual buffet” for the soul, reviving the hope of those that believe and follow the LORD.

Psalm 37:3-11
3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
4 Delight yourself also in the LORD, And
He shall give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.
6 He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday.
7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.
8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret -- it only causes harm.
9 For evildoers shall be cut off; But those who wait on the LORD, They shall inherit the earth. 10 For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more; Indeed, you will look carefully for his place, But it shall be no more.
11 But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way.

24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down;
For the LORD upholds him with His hand.
25 I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread.
26 He is ever merciful, and lends; And his descendants are blessed.
27 Depart from evil, and do good; And dwell forevermore.
28 For the LORD loves justice, And does not forsake His saints; They are preserved forever, But the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off.
29 The righteous shall inherit the land, And dwell in it forever.

Psalm 39:7 7
"And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You.

That sums it up - my hope in in Him. Have a great weekend and I hope you accomplished everything you want to this weekend.
George.

Day one ...

This is the 1st game of the last three games to be played which will decide the State Championship. I know the girls are excited - and nervous! I am looking forward to these games. They have an opportunity like never before.
My computer has been running so slow that I finally had to defragment and then erase all temporary internet files and all of those stinking "cookies". Those cookies can mess up your stuff (speed and efficiency).
Today is blue skies, nice and cool - and like I say, another "day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it".
I am going to get ready to head out for the big game. I have a shirt that has her name and number on it and that I am her dad. Moma and the grandparents proudly sport theirs, too.
I'll let you know who wins. George.

CT done ....

Yesterday, the CT was easier and less of a hassle than I expected. I didn’t feel the needle when the tech inserted it. That is always a good thing. That tells you a lot about our expectations and how they can affect us. I will review the results with my Oncologist next Monday. I am looking forward to that visit.
The surgeon who put in and took out the port is ordering me a wound vac device which will speed the healing and has to be changed once per day verses 3 times per day for the gauze type. It has a little fanny pack that contains the pump motor, etc. which produces a mild suction on the wound site. I don’t know if it makes a lot of noise or not but I am looking forward to getting that going. I have seen these many times in the hospitals and in our lab at CVT but never expected to have one myself. Again, that tells you a lot about our expectations. The surgeon noted that it will take a few months for the wound to heal. I didn’t realize that it would take so long. I am believing God for a quick healing in Jesus name.
My mother had her drain tube removed and is doing well. She also has a meeting with her Oncologist next week - Tuesday – I plan on being with her and dad during that meeting. She told me that she will have to have a port put in and will require chemo and radiation. We want to be wise about these things and take correct action. We are believing God for direction and healing.
My brother is also doing well following his arm surgery. For those of you who do not know, he had a left bicep tear where the bicep detached from the bone or ligament. It is just tough for him not to be able to “do” stuff during the recovery time. I can relate to that. You have to change what you would “prefer” to do and do only what you are allowed to do because of the necessary recovery time.
Volleyball is almost over. Three days of games are left in New Orleans. They won the last game which means there are 8 teams left and then 4 and then the final two teams Saturday will decide the State Championship. It will be incredible if/when they win.
I made some homemade bread last night. It is Dark German Rye – it is some pretty dense stuff. The kind of bread you can eat or use as a weapon. That is probably why in the old days the bread was so hard - the bugs couldn’t eat it, you could break a tooth on it or hit an enemy with it at close range and knock them out. The only thing I would have added would be more salt. The second part of the recipe called for “punching down” the dough and letting it rise for about 20 or 30 minutes. Well, I fell asleep – didn’t set the stove timer because I did not want to wake anyone up. Then around 1:30 am I woke up and realized the time was well passed as far as letting the dough rise, so I placed them in the loaf pans and cooked them for 30 minutes. I like homemade bread, but it is a lot of work when you think about the fact that you can get a loaf of good organic bread for about $3.
Church was really good tonight. I don’t always go on Wednesday nights since all the stuff that has been going on, but today I was feeling pretty good. I just get tired during the worship part of the service, and when I do I just sit down. What else can you do? I have decided to live everyday by faith. If I were to live strictly by my feelings I would not do very much other than sleep, eat and then sleep again. I have found that if I get up early and get going that the days fare better verses sleeping late. More is accomplished and I feel better as a result. The Word says, “for we walk(live) by faith, not by sight” II Corinthians 5:7. That is a good word.
I am falling asleep sitting here typing, so I am going to say God Bless and see you tomorrow.

Vote today . . .

Please exercise your Constitutional right to vote today. Be an informed voter. Know what the issues/candidates are before you vote. You may also have to exercise some patience - there are early reports of voting machine problems in some districts.

Again, I am encouraging my family and friends to vote for Amendment #8 which is in favor of Central having its own School district. I do not normally get political, but this one is close to home, literally.

Went to the Dentist yesterday - I have a cracked/broken crown which he said could have been worse. This one broke in the right places I guess. That will be taken care of soon. The chair I was in during the check up - I think it is the most comfortable chair I have ever sat in. I believe they provide the comfortable stuff to keep your mind off of the drilling.

Still nursing the port site 3 times a day. I reached a little to far for something yesterday and must have pulled some stuff that had been trying to grow together - man it starting stinging and burning. So, right arm, take it easy is the word for the day.

We serve a BIG GOD! He hung the stars and the Moon. He set all things into motion with a Word. He can meet your needs today with just a Word. He can calm fears, give you hope and has already promised you a bright future.

I have a CT scheduled today. Looking forward to getting it done.
I'll let ya'll know how it goes. George - go Vote.

It's SUNDAY !

We are on shouting ground today! At least that is the way I am feeling in my head. Sunrise was gorgeous, the temperature is cool and the air is clean, clear and fresh. I had the dog, cats and bunnies fed and watered by 6:30 am. All I need is some chickens to feed and pigs to slop (just kidding!!! Really).
Late yesterday the port site began to really speak to me - if you know what I mean. It was hurting. I wanted to tough it out, but something I learned at M.D. Anderson was that you heal quicker when you are not in pain. So, I kind of had that imaginary 'threshold' (remind me to tell you the origin of the word threshold) in my head - "if it gets to this point, I'll take something". It got to that point and I did. I slept about 2 hours and then woke up relaxed and relatively pain free - and then had a very pleasant and quiet time in prayer and meditation with the Lord just lying in the bed for several hours. I like those "unplanned" times with the LORD. Here are some scriptures that come to mind:

Psalm 4:3-5
3 the LORD will hear when I call unto him. 4 Stand in awe, and sin not:
commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.
5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD.
"But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself

Psalm 63:5-7 5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness;
and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:
6 When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. 7 Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.

To top it off, I got an encouraging word from a friend (email) which confirmed the place I was presently positioned spiritually. I got so pumped I had to calm myself down. I try not to get to emotional about spiritual stuff, people might start thinking I am a fanatic or something. (just kidding).

The cats are still sleeping in the hallway. We found if they were in the little cage, they were very agitated. But if allowed to stay in the hall they are okay unless they have to use the potty. Which, by the way, Tippy did last night. He is a smart one, he let us know what he thinks of the little cage - "that evil cramped cage which delivered he and Blacky up the to House of Pain (the Vets office) to surgically remove my manhood". He plopped a pile right in the back of the cage. Robin discovered this and was thankful he didn't use the hall floor. Amen to that. We still are giving them pain meds twice daily. They are moving around just fine, but they still are not 100%. Their fur has really gotten long - I am wondering if one of the parents was or has some Persian genetics.

LSU beat Tennessee - thank goodness !!! I would still be in a rejoicing mood - but a win sure does help! That should help our ranking.

Here is one more scripture related to sleeping that my kids like to quote - you know how it was when you were a kid - every little noise was amplified and scary and the fear was real.

Proverbs 3:23-26
23 Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.
24 When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid:
yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.
25 Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.
26 For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

We can use the Word of God just like any other tool. God said it, we just need to remind ourselves what He said. I know I have been quoting it alot lately with all the stuff coming at me and my family. Thank God for those men and women who gave their lives so I could read the Scriptures in my own language. Amen.

Vote this coming Tuesday, and again please consider voting YES for Amendment #8 for Central to be able to have its own school district.
Time to get ready for Church. We love ya'll. GW

Friday !!!

(Here is another one of my cute bunnies. Check out the eye make up. This one is a Dutch. )

Today has been a good day. Not without its challenges, but a good day. One of the surgeons called and told me he was calling in two prescripts for antibiotics. A swab of the “hole” showed the presence of two bacteria that are common to people going through what I am going through, but in order to be “covered” he wanted to take action and be ahead of the game. So now I am on two different antibiotics (CIPRO and a Sulfa based one) and I am no longer taking the Cephalexin. These are really strong and have a list of side effects and possible reactions, so pray for me that I do well and that the Lord Himself will cover me. Doctors treat and medicate, but God is the Healer. I am so thankful for the care these guys are providing me with both surgically and follow up care. It is good to know they have my back. I am also so thankful for The Lord and all He has provided me and my family with during this time.
Still changing the dressing and I have gotten a little more used to it, but it is not easy. The site is still really sore and even burns/stings sometimes. I find myself procrastinating just before it is time to change it. The phrase “just do it” does not help, but that is really the only way to look at it. The Doctor said it was okay to get in the shower and let warm water run over the site – I am not sure about that, I may give a try. If you hear someone yelling in the shower, that might be me tomorrow.
Did I tell you I had part of a crown break off the other day? I was chewing and bit down on what I thought was a piece of rock and then realized it was part of one of my teeth. I knew it was coming one day, just didn’t know when. I have an appt to get it looked at.
We all got together tonight and ate leftovers and some fresh cooked stuff. We had a good time visiting. A couple of the family are sniffing and sneezing with sore throats. It is that time of year, I ain’t claiming anything but good health. I do not have a choice.
The cats are both home and doing okay. We are having to medicate them twice a day for 7 days and keep a close eye on them too. They are acting normal , just a little slower going. They do not like being in a cage that is for sure. She (Blacky) had a little umbilical hernia which was repaired during the surgery.
Mom is doing good and I have yet to talk with my brother, but my aunt said he was okay.

Don’t forget to vote this coming Tuesday - November 7th.

I am supporting the amendment to have a Central school system. I would encourage others to do the same. You know I don’t like to get political, but however you vote is your business, just be sure to vote.
I will catch ya’ll up tomorrow. It’s dressing changing time. Trust God. George.

Cute couple ....

Another Homecoming picture of moma and me. We had a good time, as I said before, seeing all of the kids dressed up and having some clean fun. The food was delicious - Montalbano Catering served the food. That is Randy's family's new business - I stand to be corrected but I think I am correct. The Boudin balls were kickin'.
It was really cold this morning. My hands were hurting just from walking the dog and feeding the rabbits. It was that wet cold that cuts through you - and the north wind didn't help. Tonight is supposed to be in the lower 50's (F*).
The bunnies can handle the cold, they just can't handle the draft/wind. So I cover them if it gets below 50 degrees. That's what the Official National bunny book says. They also get more food to compensate for their increased caloric needs due to keeping warm. Hopefully the cold will kill off this recent onslaught of mosquitos. They have been attacking us as soon as we walk out the door the past few days.
I went by the Dr. today and let one of the surgeons check out the ex-port site (AKA the "hole"). It is doing okay he said, I just have to keep it clean and frequent dressing changes. It is letting me know it is there, very tender and I am very cautious - protective - about getting hit or bumped in that area. I have not had to take any heavy pain meds though, thank God.
Spoke with my mom tonight and she said my brother's surgery is finished and he was in recovery. I wish I was there to mess with his head while he is sedated - that would be a kick.
I need to go and take care of some things. I have more to say - so I'll be back.
George.

Pasta, it's whats for breakfast...

Pasta is for breakfast - for now that is, my first breakfast. You know how you get on a "kick" and something is working for you - you go with it until it doesn't work. Right now I am back on the pasta. A little extra virgin olive oil, real butter and salt. It is so smooth and good and just slides right down. Oh, yeah, it has to be fairly hot, too.
Yesterday was a pretty tough day, especially the morning. I don't know what made it so other than maybe because of the port removal and the anesthesia. The nurse did say it could mess me up for a while. Monday was so foggy Robin had to remind of the days events. I know repacking the port site twice a day is something I am not looking forward to. It doesn't hurt, just uncomfortable, but it is wide and deep - kind of freaks me out - more than I think I care to handle. I must have pulled out 2 feet of gauze the first time following the port removal. I'm thinking to myself, "where is all of this coming from?" But God always tells me that I can do it - through Him - even when I think I cannot. He promised in the Word to be with me, and you, as we go through these things. That is good enough for me. Then I "caught" a serious headache yesterday evening (think it could have been a anesthesia hang over?). Two Ibuprofen and a little food took care of it around midnight. Thank God for medication when you need it. Those things - headaches, can hang around for several days if not treated with something. That has been my experience in the past.
Speaking of foggy, it was foggy this morning. Makes for a beautiful sunrise over the pond, too.
The weather is gradually slipping into the cooler time of year - something I relish as I know many of you do too.
I have another book idea that hit me yesterday. I have been 'mulling' it over in my head, writing down some of the ideas/points and themes. Just like any idea, until you act on it it is only an idea. A thought, vapor or memory - until you put it down on paper and take action.
This is Volleyball week. The Hosanna girls team beat Runnels Monday night and now they are ranked #1 in their grouping - sorry I don't know what they call that. They are really good, put it that way. So just about every waking non-school moment, until the final game, will be consumed by Volleyball. Basketball is starting, too. Thanks to all of the coaches who work over time to get the teams in shape and ready for their respective sports (aka Coach Lana and Coach Pat).
Spoke with mom and dad yesterday, she is resting comfortably. She does have a drain tube for about 1 week and then that will be removed. I believe she said the Dr. told her 3 weeks recovery is average. Her sister Eva is taking care of the cooking, etc. during this time. My brother went for his pre-op evaluation yesterday to get ready for his left arm surgery this coming Thursday (tomorrow). Please keep them in prayer. Thanks.
Now, I have put it off long enough, time to change the dressing again. Twice a day. Come on dude, you can do it! I know you can!
Have a great day and be a blessing - you are the light of the world.

Glad that's over ...

Well, I have been officially "deported" as of noon yesterday. One of my surgeons that I work for did the procedure. He left it open style so as to heal from the inside out. That will involve more hands on attention and care from me/us. Thanks to my father in law for the ride there and back and for taking care of my "stuff". I got home and it took probably 4 hours for me to get to where I could walk or think semi-straight. I ate some steamed vegis, angel hair pasta and two boiled egg whites. It hit the spot after 18 hours with no food. Now we wait and see and trust God.
Mom had to stay over night folowing her procedure for observation. We don't have the full story, but she is doing well enough to take care of herself at the Hospital. She ran my dad and her sister off from her room back to mom's house for the night. We continue to pray for a quick recovery.
I do not know what I would do without Jesus in times like these. What do people do? Where do they turn to or to what do they turn to? He is our refuge in the storm. And in addition, He gives us the ability to enjoy life better than we otherwise would be able to. Psalm 103 tells us to not forget all of His benefits. Amen.
More to say later, just wanted to post a quick update --- 5:25 am.
George

Clear skies...

No clouds today, and yet the water was running across Greenwell Springs road near Flannery? The river is cresting from all of the previous rain. That is scary. You think it is over and then here it comes!
Everyone made it through Homecoming in one piece and even made it to Church. Pastor Don has been preaching on Trusting God. The Church needed to hear today's message. It was good, get the CD if you missed it.
The Saints lost. I saw a few minutes of the game. Too bad.
My mother-in-law cooked an awesome lunch - roast, rice & gravy with steamed vegis. I could taste most of it, still not normal but better than usual. I had to make myself stop eating. That's the only problem, when I can taste, I get this inability to stop eating - to a point. Thank God for those meals I can enjoy. It will all come back in time.
It appears that I am going to have to have the port removed tomorrow (Monday) if at all possible. The area is tender and beginning to get a little red with drainage. We are praying for no infection - at all. We don't need or want any complications. So I will be at the Dr.'s office bright and early.
My mother's surgery is also scheduled Monday sometime before noon. We are praying for the best job this Dr. has ever done or could be done.
God has been so good to us in th midst of all of this. We can do nothing but thank and praise Him. "God is our refuge, a very present help in trouble". (Psalm 46:1).
I am going to hit the bed, it's 1:52 a.m. Thanks for the encouragement and prayer.
George.

Homecoming ...

Here is the half-time Homecoming presentation of all of the Homecoming Court Ladies Saturday night. I'm only putting mine up of course. All of them were beautiful and did well.
We had alot of fun, too.
Unfortunately, the Varsity team lost the game, but maybe next year.

Afterwards, we went out to eat with my brother and sister-in-law to my wife's favorite place - Golden Corral. They drove in just to see Lauren. Nana and PawPaw made it to the game and paw-paw filmed alot of the event - so did na-na with her new camera. Their float also won 1st place. Thanks to Randy and paw-paw for all of the help with the float - that's a long drive from Central going that slow - even though they did it around midnight to avoid traffic. The Friday morning the weather was not good at all, but when it came to show time, it cleared up as if the Lord had it all planned out.

I consider it a privilege to have been blessed with the family I have and to be able to experience all of these passages of time with them. Everyday is a gift to be celebrated, even though we all know some days are tougher than others and some you even wish would never have happened - and some you just flat screw up right at the outset with an un-Christ like attitude. That is called living. That is where love, understanding and forgivness come in. Jesus gave us the example to follow.

We have the Homecoming Dinner tonight - I guess you would call it Dinner. I know we are supposed to , right? And we will be "chaperoning", too. I am looking forward to it.

I have been a little on the weaker side the past two days, even though I finished the pills Friday. The medicine for the thrush has something to do with it I believe. The scriptures say that my "youth shall be renewed like the Eagles" - and I am standing on that one. Time to get horizontal for a few minutes before the action starts. Hope to see you in Church tomorrow.

George.

P.S. Doug Broussard - e-mail me your phone number and e-mail address please. Thanks GW.

More pics ...

Here is my first family pic and also the first of several bunny pics.
We spent Sunday at mom and dad's house and also visited with my brother and his family. We had a really good time. Mom's surgery is still on for this coming Monday, October 30th and my brothers is Nov. 1st. So we wanted to get in a good visit before all the action starts. It is still raining over here in Central. I think we have met our quota. You can stop for a while now.
I am kind of on the slow mode today, feeling pretty good just sluggish. My port is still concerning me since it (the hole at the suture line) is getting pretty deep. No pain, redness or fever, praise God. "Acknowledge Him in all your ways and He will make your paths straight". So Lord, I am acknowledging you in this situation. You are in control.

The bunnies are just about as low maintenance as you can get. They don't need to be walked and they do not bark. They are slightly lower on the food chain - if that has anything to do with it. This picture is of a 'Black Checkered Giant'. She is a healthy active one. I also have a New Zealand White - he is the buck (boy). He is a beautiful white with the pink inner ear, nose and reddish eyes. The four other females I'll introduce later. They don't like to share the lime light.

Colossians 3:23-24
23 Whatever you do, do your work heartily,
as for the Lord rather than for men,
24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive
the reward of the inheritance.
It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.

He said whatever you do. Have a great Friday. Be a blessing. George.

Pics are in ...

Here are the float girls - Hosanna Beauties,
hard at work as you can see. Just kidding.
It as a great day to build a Homecoming float.

Dead batteries?

I went to take a picture of the new arrivals this morning but the Digital Camera batteries were dead, the back up batteries were also shot, so I will have to wait a few hours for them to charge. I WILL post some cute pics as soon as possible.
Good news from CVT - our friend Jill (and husband Billy) have a bouncing baby boy - 8 lbs. 12 ounces, 21 inches long with 'football player sized hands' I was told. She had to have a C-section eventually. Jill is about 120 lbs. soaking wet (I think) and she was carrting some serious baby. We celebrate this new life with them
The kids 'Homecoming float' is coming along - they have done a good job. I just stayed out of the way myself and it is almost done. This has also been dress up week - comic costumes/themes that type of thing. Bryan is in all blue today - ice man or H20 man, Freeze Boy or something lie that. He was excited about it.
Yesterday was busy. I think the Decadron kicked into overtime and I wore myself out. I know it was in high gear early Wednesday - I was cooking lunches at 3 am - just was not sleepy. Finally slept from "4 ish to 6 ish". At 1:30 am this morning I got up to us the restroom (normal MB's so far, I've had 5 by 9:30 am already - just amongst friends of course) and I noted the thrush is starting back in my mouth, so I immediately started the Nystatin meds . Jump on it before it gets out of hand is what I say. The taste factor is waining a bit, but I have prayed the scripture frequently in Psalm 103 which says that my "youth will be renewed like the Eagles".
There is more to do today than I can do, so pacing myself is the key. Nothing heavy, just running here and there type stuff.

Philippians 4:18-19
18"But I have all, and abound: I am full,
having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you,
an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.
19 But my God shall supply all your need
according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Amen to that one. Continue to have a good day. George.

Down right cold!

This morning was down right cold! Not cool and crisp, but cold. The kind of cold that makes you want to stay in the bed if you failed to put the heater at the correct setting the night before. Luckily, I woke up at 2 am to go to the boys room and set the temp. higher - around 72-74 degrees - and that was good enough. We do not have heaters in any of the bathrooms - how that was overlooked I'll never know. We have "vents" without heating elements. Sounds like a future project.
I headed out around 8:45 am for treatment - which went well, fatigue and facial flushing, but uneventful. I got out of there around 5:45 pm., just in time to make it to Lauren's volleyball game. They beat Bethany (at the North campus) 3 games straight. The first two games were quick and with a wide point spread - but of course the 3rd game was a neck and neck run the entire game. The final game went into overtime and was 30 to 28 - you have to win by 2 points. Lauren made the final point to win the 3rd game. She was some excited - and me too, that means we get to go home and not paly two more games!
The Dr. who put in my port is concerned about a "hole" which is getting larger at the end of the suture line where they put in the port. No fever, drainage or redness, but he wants me to keep a sharp eye on it. If it even looks "slightly" infected it has to come out and another one put in on the other side in the near future. So pray for healing in that site - even though the meds I am on prevent the normal healing rate which would have naturally occurred. I have a CT lined up for next week. The PET scan is going to be in November. I may go to M.D. Anderson in December for a follow up appointment. I am ready to get this scan back to see what is going on and some positive changes.
I have a new word which I could not find in the dictionary. "Interesterified". I'll give you a hint, it was found on the ingredients label of a food box. You can google it.
Did I tell you all that Lauren was voted by her class to be on the Homecoming Court? She was. Couldn't happen to a better, sweeter and more Jesus loving girl. Her and her mom have been dress/clothes shopping, hair and nail place visits - you ladies know all the prep stuff. I am all for it. This is her special season.
Also, did I tell you - are you sitting down? My mother said it was now okay to blog this information since she has notified all of the immediate family. A few weeks ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Yeah, "say what" was my reaction, too. Even as I am writing this down, I still cannot believe it, not my mom!? She is 68 years young and healthy. She would get out and play basketball with the kids, walk the dog all over the property among all of the other things she and my dad do. This was completely out of left field. The biopsy was performed, the Dr. classified it as a T1C - Tumor 1 centimeter. Small enough to do a lumpoectomy. This is an outpatient procedure. Then he said she would have to do radiation and chemo in a pill form. The surgery is scheduled for this coming Monday, October 30th. Please be praying for Patsy and Mike (dad) concerning all of this. My mother is a believer and pretty much at peace about it all. This is a pretty good situation considering how bad the news could have been. She caught it early and is getting rapid treatment. We are still believing for a miracle from God. The reason I put the words breast cancer in very small letters up above is because we are not making a "god" of this disease. With God Almighty, all things are possible.
We had my diagnosis, surgey and chemo, my dad's back surgery and eye surgery, my brother ripped his left bicep muscle of the connection to the bone a few weeks ago and is scheduled for surgery in november I believe, now mom's diagnosis. She mentioned how healthy we have all been for so long. This must be our year she said.
More news, you'll have to guess until I get a picture. It is one reason I did not post anything over the last two days. It was so cold this A.M. that the lense was fogging up. So, tomorrow I'll get a picture. You know we have two cats in addition to the dog. So figure this one out. You have, "crowing like a rooster", bats in the belfry", "3 blind mice", "snug as a bug in a rug", "stubborn as a donkey", "fuzzy as a bunny", "stinky as a billy goat", "grinning like a mule eating briars through a barbed wire fence", "fat as a cow" and "strong as a horse" and so on and so on. It's your guess as to our new addition(s). You can place your guess under comments if you would like.
Good news from CVT Vascular lab - we have a new addition - Jill and Billy LaLonde have a new baby boy born this afternoon - I do not have the details, but I will post as soon as I get some. Congrats you two.
As I posted on an earlier post, you never know what a day is going to bring. That is why it is so important to start with 'first things first', spending time alone with the LORD. Getting the vertical relationship in line before you start taking on the horizontal relationships in your life. Not to mention the "out of left field' stuff that comes at you. As the Word says, "seek the Lord, while He may be found". So let's do it. Let us seek the Lord and see what He has for us. If God be for you, who can be against you?
Have a blessed Wednesday and be a blessing. GW

from blue to rainy

“This is the day the LORD has made,
I will rejoice and be glad in it”.

You never know what a day is going to bring, so it is good to be prepared regardless. This one started out blue and ended up rainy again. We needed it to catch up (I guess) with the normal yearly rain fall numbers. Now that is a good spin to put on it.
The trailer / float thing is about finished and it is looking good. The kids and also the adults have put a lot work and time into this project. It will be worth it.
I am still so hoarse ( 3 days) that I sound like I am going through puberty all over again. We think it may be the Nystatin medication which I am taking for the “thrush”. This gets aggravating after a while, because sometimes you need to be able to yell loudly to get some ones attention, and you can’t. But it will pass soon.
I started on the Xeloda (chemo pills) today for a ½ cycle – 7 days on pills with one IV infusion this coming Tuesday. After this I am going to get the PET scan - hopefully the following week.
I have a prayer request for one of my daughter’s friend’s mother. Her name is Angela. She was diagnosed last Summer with breast cancer, went through a lumpectomy, chemo and radiation and was cleared after finishing treatment. Just recently she found another lump in the same area of the previous tumor. She had a biopsy and it is malignant. She is really seeking the Lord’s Will as to what to do. I can understand not wanting to go through treatment again. So, when you pray, pray for Angela please. Thanks.
LSU is playing tonight against Fresno State - sp far they are winning. The rain delayed the game but it did eventually start. The field was reworked last year (they say) and is 11 inches thick in sand with drainage every 7 feet. This helps the water drain quickly – the only problem is when the Campus is flooding, it prevents the Stadium from properly draining. That is why it is so good to think and plan ahead. But that is why we pay those guys - to think ahead. It got to be 10:30 pm and it was time to hit the hay for me. So, I am making an assumption that we won the game.
Jesus time ...
There is one assumption, however, that you do not want to make - that I am "okay" with God. That me and Jesus have this "understanding". There is only one understanding in scripture and this is it - that "all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God" (Romans 6:23). If you have never recognized your need for God and repented of sin(s) then your "understanding" with Jesus is you just kidding yourself. And the fact is this, you are not "okay". I can vividly remember during one of the Mardi Gras parades being approached by two "Christians" who were out sharing the Gospel. I was telling them, "no, I'm okay - really - I walked the isle at my Church when I was about 14 years old - so I am okay". If I was so okay, then why was I out living like the devil himself? That was one question they did not ask, but one that I did ask myself. I actually felt sorry for them to be honest with you. One of my drunk friends threw a beer can at them as they were leaving. I can still see their faces in my mind. It took a bunch of hard knocks over the next year or two to wake me up to the fact that "walking the isle" did not constitute a real relationship with God. That you could be a pretty good citizen, say yes mam' and no mam', go to church and even courteously open the door for ladies - and still be just as lost as as the proverbial "goose in a snow storm". No one would marry a woman/man, and then not talk to them or spend time with them - well maybe at Christmas and Easter - would they? God is no different - in fact He requires it all - "love the LORD God with all you heart, soul, mind and strength". It is all about an active, living, two way street relationship. God is not a bully and He does not force Himself upon us. He's the best dad anyone could ever ask for and has proven it time and time again. We just have to respond.

I am heading for the "horizontal zone". Hope you can make it to your Church tomorrow.
God bless you with abundant life. George.

Sunny Day

What a difference day makes. Today is incredibly fresh and beautiful! Here are some happy flowers growing around the pond swaying in the breeze. I guess they are some kind daisy.
I had a real early bloodwork run this morning to see if my numbers are at a level acceptable for starting on the pills tomorrow. While waiting, I ran into a friend who is undergoing treatment for one of those cancers I cannot pronounce. The good news is the tumor has shrunk 50%! Praise God for that report! That got me pumped.

Thanks to my friends at CVT Vascular Lab for the treat(s). That is greatly appreciated and I hope to enjoy them as soon as possible.

I was supposed to be getting some rabbits and cages today while I had some help available, but I have yet to hear back from the owners. So I don't know if the deal is still on or not. No biggy - if it works out it works out. If not, something else will come along.

Lauren's class (about 15 of them) is over here building a Homecoming float on a flatbed trailer. They are having fun and hopefully the weather will hold out.

I am going to go try and finish the Reverse Osmosis project if possible - Jesus said, "with God all things are possible". Then there is hope for me.

whipped...

I can tell you this one is going to be short. Here what I did today without a nap. Started before 6 am, cooked breakfast, cleaned the kitchen and all surfaces. I needed the space for the Reverse Osmosis water filter installation project. My dad and I worked on this thing (I was the gofer - gofer this and gofer that - he didn't want to read the directions, but I didn't want to either. After 3 trips tot he Hardware store, we got everthing done and turned on the water and found a leak - I am going to bring a part back if they can replace it, I may have to order it, etc. In the mean time I had a whole chicken simmering in the pot on the stove and Turkey dressing in the oven thanks to mom. They left around 3 pm and it was back to cleaning again - kitchen and tool stuff.

I finally dropped and watched 15 minutes of the national news. Then I watch a video about a Dr. who was healed of Cancer that took him right up to the brink of death. He has an awesome testimony.
The wife and kids made it home after school, a volleyball game and then church - a triple play day - and ate supper and then I cleaned up again.

Rained all day long. We should be catching up on that drought business. I scattered some Crimson Clover seed 2 days ago along with some Mustard Greens and Turnips - hoping to attract deer and rabbits. This rain should help germination rates. The bees love the clover.

Today (Thursday) is going to be a wonderful day. God Bless and be a blessing. George.

Lazy Cat !

Meet "Tippy" the White tipped tail Tabby who has been lucky enough to not only have one new family take him in, but three! He has built in Grandparents and 3 cousins and of course my wife and kids who love him more than me. He has a wonderfully playful personality which I have not seen in a cat in a long time. Blacky his friend is also a good cat, just a little more nervous and less affectionate. He and Kenny our pomeranian will actually sit by each other and pretty much be at peace, unless Kenny starts trying to do the tail sniff thing. Tippy has absolutely no patience for that, neither would I.

Gayle, send me your email address. I must have yours on my other hard drive and I cannot access it right now. Interested about your brother's beef growing hobby. I would very much like to check it out. I saw Paul today while at the hospital, but he was passing down the road and did not see me. Tell him for me please. I tried to call him on the cell number I have, but it was not correct - e-mail me your / his correct cell# please.

A quick plug for Sonny's Auto Repair in Central off of Blackwater Rd. I brought in the Van for a sqweeky belt and also the famous "Maintenance Required" light flashing on. He tightened the belt and fixed the light for no charge. He could have trumped it up and changed the belt, etc. but he was honest as always. I recommend his place. 14831 Blackwater Rd. 261-5551.

All things medical - I met with Dr. Patten today. Blood numbers were not great, but adequate. I did not take any treatments today. We decided together to do a split treatment. I have already finished one half, so this Saturday I will begin the other half. My system can only tolerate about 6 or 7 days of the Xeloda. Following this I will have a CT/PET scan here in town. This will tell us if there are any tumors left, how big, new/old, where and based upon this info we will determine what to do next. That was my idea. I am not playing in a crap shoot game here. I am going to "live and not die and declare the works of the Lord" in one fashion or another. I am believing and will accept nothing other than a 100% healing. Jesus never said," be ye sick" - He said many things, but that was not one of them. "Your faith has made you whole, Pick up your mat and walk, Stretch out your hand, Rise up and walk, He's not dead, he is just asleep" ... need I continue? Jesus spoke life in everything he did. Except for the fig tree with no fruit - he spoke and it died. He showed us how the power of life and death are in the tongue, hence the encouragement by all to speak life when using the tongue. I have to work on this daily, hourly and somtimes minute by minute. No excuses, I know what I should be doing/saying. The battle is in the mind and heart of man.

Please be in prayer for Wil Howell's dad and mom. Mr. Howell is having a tough time now and needs a touch from God Almighty. Also, my friend Jill from work was hospitalized for what they think may be blood clots in a part of one of her lungs. The details are sketchy, but please pray for a rapid resolution so she can get back home. She is plannig still to get married in Dec. and with the previous good news of slight shinkage in the tumors, we want for her to have a continued regression of said tumors.

I need to go and read up on how to install this new fangled reverse osmosis water (RO) filter (correctly).
God bless and be a blessing. George.

Rainy day . . .

This was a perfect day for catching up on our much needed rainfall totals. I hope this will help the farmers who have been hurting for rain. A good slow, steady drizzle.
Last night was a restless one from 4 am till time to get up. Must have eaten too much too late. It's kind of like eating a lot of pizza late and having the strangest dreams. I also felt like I had been run over by a truck! No more fried food for me for a while.
I also had a few more bouts with mild Big D. Nothing horrendous; I suspect it is theNystatin anti-fungal medication for Thrush that is causing it. One thing leads to another ....
I purchased an Reverse Osmosis water filter system for our home due to the rash of "brown water" episodes we have been experiencing. Everytime they add a new line or repair a line upstream from us, we get splinters in the little screens at the inside faucet head outlets and brown water. Now that to me is nasty! I trusted my water quality up until this happened several times in the past year. Some say it is no big deal, but I say, "if it is brown, we ain't drinking it down!" All I have to do if follow the instructions and hook it up. It removes everything but the H2O. The filter is a first step towards improving the things we intake - air, water and food. Not to become a fanatic, but to use wisdom and to change what I can change. P.S. The bathrooms in the Lowes by Cortana are pretty clean. I was thankfully surprised.
Afterwards, I quickly went by Our Daily Bread Store and got some of their delicious organic bread (seasoned, rolls and loaf bread) - which is not too expensive - depends on what you by. They even have a day old shelf next to the freah shelf 25% off.
Tomorrow is treatment time and mom and dad are going to chauffer me. I am probably going to request he order another scan to see what is what.
Joseph said to his brothers (who sold him into slavery as a young man) after they were forced to go to Egypyt for food and discovered that He (Joseph) was Viceroy (running the show) "you meant it for evil, but God meant it for good". Many things we do not understand happen to us or those we love and at times we question God as to why. The old question of "why do bad things happen to good people". The first thing is - there are no "good" people. Scripture is very extremely clear on this in Romans 6:23, "for all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God". I shudder to question God's motives and have quickly learned that His motives are as pure as it gets. Do not doubt His love for you. Do not doubt His Sovereignty over your situation. Look to Him with full trust and confidence. He is the best Father to ever exist and Worthy of your trust. He is Worthy.
The storm front is rumbling in - I am going to get "unplugged" for now. Have a great Tuesday and remember to be a blessing to your world. You are a light set on a hill at this place and time.
